Pain Treatment
|
There are over 50 million Americans suffering from chronic pain. Many of these people suffer needlessly because they cannot or have not sought out proper treatment. To make matters worse, there is a shortage of pain management specialists.
As strange as it may seem, insurance companies often only pay for highly invasive and risky pain procedures, and not for the simpler treatments that often work better. Doctors are afraid to prescribe opiate medications due to the possible legal risk involved, and patients are often afraid to take these medications because of possible side effects. All these things add up to an inadequate pain management system.
Our pain relief techniques
At the Advanced Medicine Center we take a better approach to solving the pain problem. We use an advanced approach that we have developed over many years in treating pain. It is vastly different, and we feel superior, to the approach used by most mainstream pain doctors.
Often, the main pain generators are tender points and/or trigger points in the muscles. We address muscle pain with several highly effective techniques.
Cold “spray and stretch” and deep pressure massage are therapeutic techniques which we use that are safe and effective. With this method the involved area is sprayed with a safe agent that temporarily puts the muscle in a cold and thus relaxed state. Then specific stretches and or deep pressure massage is conducted to alleviate any spasm that may be occurring.
Residual tender points are treated with a safe peripheral nerve block and trigger point injections using only a 1% Lidocaine solution. We never use immune suppressing steroidal injections. The doctor locates the tender points and gently injects the solution into the muscle. This technique is safe and very effective.
Laser treatments to trigger points or acupuncture points are used in some patients with great results. We can explain these techniques in more detail at your first visit.
Perpetuating factors
Often, there are underlying or “perpetuating” factors that are at the root of a chronic pain problem. This is an area that we specialize in and that most conventional doctors do not address whatsoever.
Most conventional doctors are only left with the options of covering up pain symptoms with pills, or recommending surgery. We attempt to avoid these options if at all possible. Instead of only attempting to cover up symptoms with drugs, we identify and treat the underlying factors that are causing and/or contributing to the pain.
These perpetuating factors are often hormonal deficiencies involving the thyroid, adrenal, or the sex hormone producing glands. Vitamin and mineral deficiencies, such as B12, B6, magnesium and potassium are also often to blame for pain conditions. If suspected, we will recommend specific tests to verify these issues. Often, when these underlying problems are addressed stubborn chronic pain conditions which were previously “incurable” will resolve.
Our thorough approach is very successful in managing patients with issues ranging from acute pain to complicated chronic pain conditions.
